Police nab 15 along Abuja-Kaduna, Kano-Jigawa-Kaduna highways

The police, on Friday, again paraded another set of suspected criminals said to be operating on the Abuja-Kaduna and Kano-Jigawa- Kaduna highways with the various assorted weapons and operational vehicle recovered from the gangs

Parading the suspects, including five of them in military uniforms at the Rejinna Police Base, along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Moshood Jimoh, said some of them had confessed to being responsible for the killing of a Kaduna-based lawyer, the late Mr Sheriff Yasidi and the subsequent kidnapping of his wife for a ransom.

The development was just as the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the immediate raid of suspected criminal hide-outs nationwide to stem the increasing cases of violent crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping for ransoms and others.

The FPRO, while addressing newsmen during the parade of the suspects, said the IGP had also directed all Assistants Inspector General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) in the zones and commands nationwide to beef up security in their areas of responsibilities.

“They are to ensure massive deployment of armed police personnel, patrol teams and undercover operatives to black spots, flash points and other vulnerable criminal spots and make sure that detection of crimes are prompt to serve as effective deterrent to would-be criminals,” he said.

Speaking on the paraded suspects, he said, “The new strategies implemented by the personnel of the ‘Operation Absolute Sanity’ yielded positive results in the arrest of the above-mentioned suspects.”
