Sports vital for fight against diseases – Akeredolu

Betty Ayanwu-Akeredolu, wife of Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu,  says  sports have the power to help many Nigerians avoid and or overcome diseases.

Ayanwu-Akeredolu spoke  recently  in Akure during a city-wide jog-for-life exercise as part of activities marking the 20th anniversary of the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria and to raise awareness on the disease.

She  said without regular exercises, the body would come under attacks from various sicknesses thereby putting the health of individuals at risk.

She said, “We cannot talk about a healthy society without appreciating the role of sports and what regular participation in it does to the body.

“Exercises are a good way of ridding our systems of harmful elements and they help the body get the right type of balance needed to function optimally. I am a lover of tennis and play it regularly to keep fit and stay healthy.”
