NCS burns N25m raw donkey hides in Kano

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service Compliance Team on Thursday in Kano destroyed over 2,700 pieces of raw donkey hide, estimated at about N25m.

The items were intercepted at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in the process of being exported out of the country.

Head of the CG’s Compliance Team, Comptroller Ahmed Azarema, in company with the Kano/Jigawa Customs Command Comptroller, Mr. Yusuf Abba-Kassim, said that the exportation of unprocessed hides and skin was criminal.

He said, “It is disheartening to note that some Nigerians now indulge in the unpatriotic business of exporting unprocessed leather, while we have our tannery industries here. Doing this is killing our economy, doing this means throwing hundreds of thousands of our teeming youths out of the labour market.”
