The first Veterinary Alumni Association of College of Veterinary Medicine, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, (FUNAAB), has been inaugurated.
The association was kicked-started at Veterinary Medicine Department of the university with the desire to fashion a way out for unemployed veterinary graduates
The Dean of the College, Professor Adebayo Akinloye while inaugurating the association said the inauguration of the Alumni association would foster unity and development among past students of the college.
Akinloye stressed that the association would serve as a body where all past students of the college could meet and discuss about the development of the institution.
He also added further that the association would help in the development of sound educational policies in veterinary medicine and charged the alumni of the college to be upright and be ready to contribute to the development of the country.
“I am happy today, because FUNAAB is the first institution in Nigeria that would have a platform for all alumni of Veterinary medicine.’
“I believe this would help in promoting more unity and help in providing opportunities for its member,” he said.
“This Association would serve as a body where all past students of this college would come together to discuss the development of the institution’,Akinloye said.
Similarly,a member of the drafting committee, Dr Toba Adeyeye said the alumni of the College sees it as necessity to have an alumni body so as to help in facilitating and promoting unity among the students after graduation.
He said the association would serve as a platform that will provide professional guidance and support for fresh graduates in the field of veterinary medicine.
Adeyeye added that the Alumni would support the college through donation of funds and learning resources, creating opportunities for collaboration between the college and corporate organization.
He however pledged that the association will create a platform where unemployed graduates in the field of veterinary medicine could get opportunity to be employed by reputation organization.
“This inauguration of Alumni association was borne out of the fact that we want to give back to the school that made us’,he added.
“We decided to have a platform, so that we could help our College like donation of funds and learning resources in other to create an enable environment for students still in the College of Veterinary medicine”Adeneye said.
The Director of the Veterinary, Mrs. Morenike Dipeolu in her remark appealed to the federal government, state and local to employ only veterinarians in carrying out meat inspection in abattoirs and other food processing industries.
Dipeolu added that pet owners should vaccinate and care for their pets accordingly; saying that the legislation should reviewed the Animal Diseases laws so as to reduce the high rate of Animal-man diseases popularly known as zooneses.
Also present at the inauguration of the Veterinary Alumni Association were the pioneer Dean of the college, Ebenezer Oteshile, Deputy Dean of the College, Oluwakayode Shobare and some lecturers of the College.
