The private screening was held at the IMAX Filmhouse, Lekki, Lagos, was attended by celebrities such as Fred Amata, IK Ogbonna, Monalisa Chinda, Ayo Makun, Adunni Ade, Denrele Edun, Sonia Ogbonna, Bryan Okwara, and Alex Ekubo.
While speaking with The Guardian, Ogbonna, said, “Let’s forget about the film being a comedy movie. It’s a movie that touches the value of family, how family should not be disregarded. How husband and wife should find the beauty in every situation, be it high or low moments.
“Sometime, people get lost in the 21st century, the fact that we are in the internet age, that you have so much money that you can afford to travel to wherever you want and forget family time, you forget to give your woman the little attention she desires and this affects the family negatively. In Excess Luggage, we pay so much attention looking into how family should remain in the standard everyone craves for. People should never forget that the first love, the first point of fun is within your family before you ever think of other places.
“For me, it’s not difficult to switch from being a Nollywood bad boy to being a good family man and a person, who can make people laugh. I created the idea of Excess Luggage and shared it with my friend, Nikky Ufondu, who played the role of Bianca (Douglas’ wife) and she loved it, and we came together to make the movie.
“I wasn’t even sure of the character I was going to play in the movie, but the director insisted I should play the character of Enyinnaya; it was daring and challenging, but with my research, I delivered a good job. We just won the Best Comedy Movie of the Year in the just concluded Abuja International Film Festival. I’m really happy to see something that was within come to life.
For me, the next thing is only going to be something better.”
On his part, Ezeruonye, said, “We have excess luggage everywhere - from families to friends and neighbours. You just deal with it; it’s a way of life.
Playing such a role wasn’t challenging except for the fact that I lost my voice. I enjoyed myself on the movie set because I am used to playing different roles. One of the beauties of the movie was its good mixture of the old and the young. So, it was a good production and I can bet you the viewership will exceed everyone’s expectation.
With Denrele, Queen Nwokoye, nothing falls short of extra-comical acting and more than enough razzmatazz.”
